Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan Mull Further Enhancing Multifaceted Cooperation

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The discussion focused on current issues on the bilateral agenda and regional interaction, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

At the beginning of the conversation, the leaders exchanged heartfelt congratulations on the upcoming spring holiday of Navruz, sincerely wishing each other good health, well-being, and success, as well as peace and prosperity to the brotherly peoples of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Both sides expressed deep satisfaction with the dynamic development of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, which are based on the principles of friendship, trust, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership.

In 2024, mutual trade turnover exceeded $1 billion. Beneficial cooperation continues to develop, and industrial, energy, transport, agricultural, and water management collaborations are deepening. A joint border trade zone, “Shavat - Dashoguz”, is being established, while interregional contacts and an extensive cultural and humanitarian exchange program are actively being implemented.

The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan also discussed regional partnership issues and preparations for key forums and conferences.

A thorough exchange of views took place on the agenda of upcoming summits in the “Central Asia Plus” format in Samarkand and the next Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region in Tashkent.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the significance of the Forum scheduled for December this year in Ashgabat, organized within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly at Turkmenistan’s initiative, along with other major international events.
