The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has announced that the number of climbers who died following a fall on Vilyuchinsky volcano rose to two.
"The second injured person has also died. She suffered multiple injuries. The third climber is being carried down on a stretcher to medics at the 1,500-meter mark. She is able to walk but is exhausted. Due to the slippery slope, strong wind, and steep terrain, she’s being assisted on a stretcher. The rescue operation is ongoing," said Kamchatka’s Emergency Situations Minister, Sergey Lebedev, The Caspian Post informs via Russian media.
The tragic incident occurred on October 4, when three tourists fell from a height while climbing Vilyuchinsky Volcano. One climber died at the scene, while a second, a woman, was initially reported to be in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries.
Rescue teams have now reached the third climber, who had remained higher up the slope. Although she did not suffer serious injuries, she is being evacuated due to fatigue and hazardous conditions.
The group of tourists was not officially registered, and the route they were using had been closed to the public since July 1, 2025.
