A late-night explosion near one of Moscow’s busiest transport hubs has left a senior police officer dead and two others wounded, sending shockwaves through the Russian capital.
The blast targeted a traffic police vehicle close to Savyolovsky railway station. The station square, which surrounds one of Moscow’s ten main railway terminals, is a major departure point for suburban routes north of the city and is typically busy even late at night, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
Officer Killed in Targeted Attack
Authorities confirmed that Senior Police Lieutenant Denis Bratushchenko was killed in the explosion. Two other officers sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
Initial reports suggested that an unidentified man threw an “unknown explosive device” at a parked police vehicle, filming the incident before fleeing the scene. However, investigators later stated that CCTV footage and on-site inspections indicate the suspected attacker may have died at the scene. These claims have not been independently verified.
Security Concerns Intensify
The incident unfolded on the same day that several law enforcement facilities in Ukraine were reportedly targeted in separate explosions, raising broader concerns about regional security tensions.
Russian authorities say a criminal investigation is ongoing. No additional details about the motive or circumstances surrounding the blast have yet been released.
