Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan Expand Border Power Lines

Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are working together to expand the capacity of power transmission lines in their border regions, Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev announced.

According to him, during the meeting with the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, issues of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries, including improving cooperation in the energy sector, were discussed, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

Particular attention was paid to water and energy cooperation, and mutual efforts in the implementation of the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP project were considered. President Mirziyoyev emphasized the great importance of joint implementation of large-scale projects at the regional level. Minister Ibraev noted that work on the modernization of power transmission lines and increasing their capacity in the border regions is ongoing, adding that these projects are being implemented with the support of the World Bank’s REMIT program.

He also noted that the commissioning of the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP will improve the supply of electricity to industrial enterprises and create a wide opportunity to support programs aimed at agricultural and food security.

Recall that the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP will have a capacity of 1860 MW and a reservoir of 5.4 billion cubic meters of water will be built for its operation. It is reported that Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan plan to jointly finance the project with international financial institutions.
