Leaders of NATO member-states are expected to sign a landmark memorandum on defense industry cooperation during the alliance's summit in Türkiye's capital Ankara on July 7-8, as member states move to strengthen military capabilities and deepen industrial collaboration.
The agreement will establish a framework for developing NATO's defense industry ecosystem and will be reflected in the summit's final communiqué, The Caspian Post reports via Hürriyet.
The leaders are also expected to reaffirm their commitment to increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035, reinforcing the alliance's long-term security strategy.
The communiqué is expected to reiterate NATO's commitment to Article 5, the alliance's collective defense principle, which states that an attack against one member is considered an attack against all.
In addition, the document will outline the alliance's key security challenges, reaffirm support for Ukraine, and endorse continued financial assistance for Kyiv.
The first day of the Ankara summit will feature several high-level events, including a NATO-Ukraine Council working dinner attended by foreign ministers.
Defense ministers from NATO member states are also scheduled to meet with representatives from Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand to discuss security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will host an official reception for NATO member-states’ leaders, with the event also expected to be attended by leaders from the Asia-Pacific region, senior European Union officials, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
