Russia Strikes Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure, Thousands Left Without Power

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry has announced that Russia carried out attacks on energy facilities across four Ukrainian regions, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

The strikes targeted Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia, according to national grid operator Ukrenergo and private energy company DTEK. Emergency repair crews are already at work, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

The situation is most severe in Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk, where power outages have persisted since November 6. To stabilize the grid, Ukrenergo has imposed electricity consumption limits nationwide.

Restrictions are in place from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (GMT+2) for industrial and business users, while households are urged to use electricity sparingly during peak hours.

DTEK confirmed that one of its facilities in the Odesa region sustained serious damage, with backup systems temporarily restoring power. Full repairs, however, will take time.

No casualties have been reported, though blast waves damaged residential buildings and a kindergarten in Zaporizhzhia.

Energy companies warned that continued Russian attacks could trigger further emergency outages across Ukraine, putting additional strain on the already fragile power network.
