Russia’s Primorye Territory Governor Oleg Kozhemyako has announced that Hero of Russia and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Guard Major General Mikhail Gudkov was killed in combat near Kursk city.
Kozhemyako noted that alongside Gudkov, his comrade and officer Nariman Shikhaliyev also died, The Caspian Post reports, citing Russian media.
The governor, who had frequent communications with Gudkov, described him as “a warrior strong in spirit who could not imagine himself anywhere but in the Navy”.
Moreover, Kozhemyako extended his condolences to the families of the fallen Russian officers. The Defense Ministry has not commented on the incident yet.
On July 1 several rockets were fired at the Marine Corps field headquarters, where the deputy commander of the Russian Navy was present at the time.
Gudkov was appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy in March this year. Prior to this, he commanded the 155th Pacific Fleet Marine Brigade, which distinguished itself during the special military operation.
Earlier, the information went viral that Ivan Krutikov, commander of the "Kurskie Vityazi" battalion, was fatally wounded during fighting for Sudzha settlement in the Kursk region.
