Russian Strikes Hit Gas, Energy Facilities in Ukraine

Russian forces have attacked gas extraction sites and Naftogaz thermal power plants in Ukraine using Shahed drones.

The Naftogaz press service confirmed that the strikes hit both Naftogaz group thermal power plants and gas production facilities, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi noted that the attacks coincided with a cold snap, explaining that the enemy aims to exploit freezing temperatures and peak energy demand to disrupt the system.

“Emergency crews, technical services, and all relevant units are working intensively to mitigate the damage and restore the facilities,” he added.

Acting Ukrainian Energy Minister Artem Nekrasov reported earlier that Russian drone and missile strikes in Kyiv and Kyiv region significantly damaged substations, overhead power lines, and certain energy generation facilities.

Restoration work on electricity and heating supply is ongoing.

On December 27, from night through the morning, Russian forces launched 40 missiles and 519 drones across Ukraine.
