Turkish security forces have detained four suspected members of the DHKP-C terrorist organization during a joint counterterrorism operation in Istanbul, officials confirmed.
The operation was conducted by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and the General Directorate of Security (EGM) after authorities identified indications that the suspects were preparing attacks against strategic targets in the city, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkish media.
On February 25, intelligence and police units carried out coordinated, simultaneous raids across Istanbul, detaining four individuals who were allegedly in the final stages of planning the attacks. The suspects were taken into custody for further investigation.
DHKP-C, short for the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front, is a Marxist militant group established in 1994. The organization aims to overthrow the Turkish government and replace it with a socialist system. It has claimed responsibility for multiple violent attacks, including assaults targeting state institutions and officials. The group is designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union.
