Chinese President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed China's commitment to global cooperation on artificial intelligence, urging countries to work together to shape the future of AI through collaboration rather than competition.
Speaking during his keynote address at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, Xi emphasized that China remains committed to strengthening international AI governance, The Caspian Post reports.
"China has been contributing steadily to global AI governance," Xi said.
Highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation, the Chinese leader stressed that no single country should dominate the development of artificial intelligence.
"We often say in China, 'A single string cannot make music, and a single tree does not make a forest.' AI development should not be a solo performance by a single country, but a symphony of international cooperation," he said.
Xi noted that the creation of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference reflects the collective efforts of the international community.
"Thanks to our joint efforts, WAIC has come into being in Shanghai. Our vision from one year ago is now a reality," he said.
Describing the initiative as a milestone for international collaboration, Xi added:
"This is a major move by China to answer the call of the Global South and unite the international community together to promote vigorously AI development and governance."
The Chinese president concluded by reaffirming Beijing's commitment to working with countries around the world to advance inclusive, cooperative and responsible artificial intelligence development and strengthen global AI governance.
