Kazakhstan's Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has met with Mohammed Jalood, President of the International Weightlifting Federation, and Mohamed Yousef Al Mana, President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, The Caspian Post reports citing Kazinform.
Welcoming the guests, the President expressed his gratitude to them for their contribution to strengthening cooperation and developing weightlifting in Kazakhstan.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pointed out that this sport is of great importance for Kazakhstan, as more than 20,000 Kazakhstanis regularly go weightlifting.
The Head of State also underlined the importance of maintaining close and fruitful ties with both federations to further promote this sport in Kazakhstan.
In turn, Mohamed Yousef Al Mana thanked the Kazakh President for a warm welcome and noted a high level of Kazakhstan’s weightlifting school. According to him, Astana and Almaty have all the necessary conditions for creating a regional weightlifting hub for Central Asian countries.
Having reminded of successful performance of Kazakhstani athletes at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships in Bahrain, Mohammed Jalood said that Kazakhstan is considered one of potential candidates to host the LA28 Games qualifying tournament.
Upon completion of the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev handed over 2nd degree Dostyk Order to Mohammed Jalood and Mohamed Yousef Al Mana for their contribution to the development of weightlifting.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan will host 2025 Asian Juniors and Youth Weightlifting Championships.
