A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Tajikistan, sending tremors across parts of Central Asia and being felt in neighboring Uzbekistan.
The earthquake was recorded at 02:14 (GMT+5), The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Its epicenter was located in Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region at a depth of 139 kilometers, with coordinates of 38.39° north latitude and 73.37° east longitude.
The epicenter was approximately 477 kilometers southeast of Tashkent. Despite the significant distance, seismic vibrations were felt in several regions of Uzbekistan, though at relatively low intensity.
In the Ferghana Region, tremors reached an intensity of 2-3 points at a distance of about 260 kilometers from the epicenter. In Andijan Region, the shaking was estimated at 2 points at around 285 kilometers, while Namangan Region recorded tremors of up to 2 points at a distance of roughly 325 kilometers.
Authorities reported no damage or casualties in Uzbekistan. Seismologists continue monitoring the situation, noting that deep-focus earthquakes like this one are often felt over wide areas but typically cause limited surface impact.
