The family of fallen Tajik border officer Ismatullo Qurbonov has received a new house following his death in an armed clash on the Tajik-Afghan border, highlighting the state’s support for servicemen who die in the line of duty.
According to the Khatlon governor’s office, the family of the 28-year-old officer was provided with a two-room apartment in Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
The keys and financial assistance were handed to Qurbonov’s widow by Khatlon Governor Davlatali Said on behalf of President Emomali Rahmon.
Qurbonov was killed on December 24, 2025, during a deadly confrontation with militants who crossed into Tajikistan from Afghanistan. The incident occurred at Border Post No. 5 “Bogh” of the Sarichashma border detachment in Khatlon’s Shamsiddin-Shohin district.
Earlier, authorities also provided a two-room apartment in Khorog to the family of another border officer, Zirehbon Navrouzbekov, who was killed in the same clash.
According to the Main Border Guard Directorate of the State Committee for National Security, three armed militants illegally crossed the border and refused to surrender when discovered by Tajik forces, opening fire instead. All three attackers were neutralized during the operation.
Security forces seized a large cache of weapons at the scene, including three M-16 rifles, an AK-47 assault rifle, pistols equipped with silencers, hand grenades, night-vision equipment, explosives, and other combat gear.
The Border Guard Directorate noted that this was the third armed attack and illegal border crossing from Afghanistan into Tajikistan within a month, resulting in casualties among both civilians and military personnel. The agency stated that the incidents raise serious concerns about border security and regional stability.
