Tajikistan, EBRD Ink Deal to Cut Energy Losses, Upgrade

Tajikistan’s Ministry of Finance and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development have inked 43 million euro in loan and grant agreements to launch the “Energy Loss Reduction” project.

The initiative will modernize electricity metering systems and install new power meters across distribution networks in the Khatlon and Sughd regions, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The package includes a 28 million-euro-EBRD loan and 15 million euros in EU grant funding through the Asia-Pacific Investment Fund. The documents were signed by Finance Minister Faiziddin Kahhorzoda and EBRD Permanent Representative Holger Wifel.

The project aims to boost efficiency in Tajikistan’s energy sector by cutting technical losses, strengthening infrastructure, and improving the reliability of electricity supply for households and businesses. Notably, the EBRD is also supporting mortgage market development in Uzbekistan.
