Tajikistan Issues Warning on Heat, Dust, and Flood Risks

From August 26 to 28, Tajikistan will experience rising temperatures and worsening air quality.

Officials caution that glacial floods may occur in the western districts of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, as well as in mountainous parts of Sughd Province and the Districts of Republican Subordination, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.

In Khatlon Province, the Districts of Republican Subordination, and Dushanbe, the air is expected to be heavily polluted with dust particles, including PM10 and PM2.5, which pose heightened health risks for children, the elderly, and people with chronic respiratory illnesses.

According to forecasts, nighttime temperatures in Dushanbe and the Districts of Republican Subordination will hover between 21-23°C, while daytime highs will reach 35-38°C. Southwestern winds are predicted at 12-15 meters per second, accompanied by variable cloudiness and occasional haze. In foothill and mountain areas, nighttime temperatures will fall to 12-18°C, with daytime highs of 30-35°C.

The Hydrometeorology Agency advises citizens to limit prolonged outdoor activity, especially near busy roads, and to pay close attention to the health of children and elderly relatives. Authorities also urge caution in mountainous regions where the risk of glacial flooding remains elevated.

Weather officials further warn that strong westerly winds of up to 15-20 meters per second, combined with dust haze, may aggravate conditions, underscoring the need to monitor updates and follow safety guidelines.
