Tajikistan is home to over 170,000 people with disabilities, representing 1.59 per cent of the country’s population - the lowest share among post-Soviet states.
The government is rolling out new initiatives to improve their quality of life, focusing on coordinated social, medical, educational, and legal support, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
Key measures include introducing case management and intersectoral approaches, modernizing rehabilitation technologies, expanding prosthetics and assistive devices, and making public spaces more accessible. Special attention will also be given to improving living conditions in nursing homes for the elderly and disabled.
Since 2021, disability pensions have been regularly reviewed, and a new Contact Center (3900) has been launched to help citizens with pension information and applications, enhancing access to vital social services.
