Sixty talented women artisans and entrepreneurs from Tajikistan’s Sughd region have been awarded grants totaling 420,000 somonis.
The funding was distributed as part of a competition promoting traditional crafts and women’s entrepreneurship, supporting fields such as weaving, sewing, ceramics, wood carving, and other handcraft traditions, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
Out of 105 submitted projects, 60 were selected:
15 women received 10,000 somonis each,
15 winners were granted 8,000 somonis,
and 30 recipients received 5,000 somonis each.
Muayassara Mavloni, Deputy Head of the Women and Family Affairs Department, said that 39 women from Sughd had already received presidential grants in 2025 for their business initiatives.
Looking ahead, the region plans to expand the program in 2026, increasing total funding from 420,000 to 560,000 somonis and awarding grants to 80 women.
Launched in 2010, Sughd’s grant program has supported women artisans for more than 15 years, assisting to preserve traditional crafts, create new jobs, and strengthen local entrepreneurship across the region.
