Tajikistan to Build New Border Logistics Hub with EDB Backing

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport, and the Center for Public-Private Partnership Project Implementation have launched a feasibility study for a new logistics center on the Tajik-Uzbek border.

The tripartite technical assistance agreement, signed in Dushanbe, will see the EDB Technical Assistance Fund finance the study and assess the project’s overall viability, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Deputy Minister of Transport Shoista Saidmurodzoda noted that this is the first transport infrastructure project in Tajikistan implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism.

EDB Country Director for Tajikistan Vladimir Yakunin said the project aligns with the National Logistics Development Program 2023-2028, aiming to modernize transport infrastructure and enhance cross-border trade efficiency.

Once the study is complete, the bank may finance the construction of the logistics center, which is expected to strengthen Tajikistan’s logistics network, improve the investment climate, and boost regional trade flows.

Authorities had also previously explored a joint Uzbekistan-Tajikistan trade and industrial zone at the Oybek-Fotehobod border crossing.
