Three Turkish Airlines Seek to Expand Flight Network with Tajikistan

Three Turkish carriers have formally requested the launch of additional flights connecting cities in Tajikistan and Türkiye.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Habibullo Nazarzoda, Director of the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan, and Kemal Yuksek, Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Türkiye, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The talks were also attended by representatives of Turkish Airlines, Anadolu Jet, and Pegasus Airlines.

The discussions covered new routes, including Ankara-Dushanbe, Ankara-Khujand, and Antalya-Dushanbe (seasonal summer service). The parties also explored increasing frequencies on the Istanbul-Dushanbe route.

The Turkish side proposed cooperation in areas such as aviation safety, licensing, process digitalization, and training for civil aviation personnel.

This comes after Tajikistan’s government announced in late June the full abolition of the parity system that previously required equal flight shares between national and foreign airlines. Airports in Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar, and Kulyab have now adopted an “open skies” policy, removing restrictions on flight frequency, seat capacity, and ticket pricing.

Currently, limitations remain in place for 18 routes for up to three years, after which they will also operate under the new rules. International experts have long noted that the parity system was a major barrier to competition, keeping airfares high and hindering the development of tourism in Tajikistan.
