Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan marked a new milestone in their strategic partnership on June 22 with the online presentation of the “Dostlug” (“Friendship”) oil tanker, attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The vessel, built at the Baku Shipyard and gifted by Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan, stands as a symbol of growing cooperation between the two Caspian nations. Measuring 141 meters in length and 16.9 meters in width, with a deadweight capacity of 7,875 tons, the tanker showcases Azerbaijan’s expanding capabilities in modern shipbuilding, The Caspian Post reports via Azertac.
The project highlights the ability of the Baku Shipyard to execute large-scale and technologically sophisticated maritime construction projects, reinforcing the country’s position as a regional industrial and logistics hub.
The presentation of the “Dostlug” tanker also reflects the strengthening friendship and economic ties between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, particularly in the transport and energy sectors.
Since its establishment, the Baku Shipyard has built 14 vessels and carried out repairs on more than 170 ships. The shipyard currently has 17 vessels in its order portfolio, with construction underway on 11 ships and another six in the design phase.
