Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are considering the launch of twice-weekly direct flights between Baku and Ashgabat, as the two countries move to deepen cooperation in transport, trade and tourism.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Ashgabat, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Azerbaijan.
Officials reviewed ways to expand collaboration across transportation, tourism, trade and investment, with a strong focus on boosting connectivity between Asia and Europe.
The two sides also highlighted the importance of strengthening their transit partnership. Turkmenistan confirmed it will continue offering preferential tariffs for Azerbaijani vessels using the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, supporting the development of the Trans-Caspian transport corridor.
In addition, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan agreed to accelerate work on the subsea telecommunications cable across the Caspian Sea, a project expected to enhance regional digital connectivity.
Tourism and business ties were also high on the agenda. Alongside plans for regular direct flights between Ashgabat and Baku, the two countries agreed to organize mutual business missions and familiarization visits for entrepreneurs to Azerbaijani cities, including Aghdam, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khankendi and Nakhchivan.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a package of bilateral cooperation documents. The next session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission is scheduled to take place in Azerbaijan.
