Turkmen, Azerbaijani Breeders Unite to Revive Legendary Akhal-Teke and Karabakh Horses

Turkmen and Azerbaijani horse breeders are poised to begin cooperation focused on the Akhal-Teke and Karabakh horse breeds-two iconic symbols of the Turkic cultural legacy in a significant move to preserve and revive centuries-old equestrian heritage.

The initiative was announced by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, during the 12th Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

Addressing the summit, Berdimuhamedov underscored Turkmenistan’s sustained efforts to promote shared cultural traditions, including traditional carpet weaving, and called for equestrian collaboration to be recognized as a vital extension of this rich cultural heritage.

“This partnership not only will revive our ancient horse breeding traditions but also strengthen the historic bonds between our peoples,” Berdimuhamedov stated. He expressed optimism that cooperation between Turkmen and Azerbaijani breeders would deepen the cultural ties between the two nations and serve as a model for similar projects with other Turkic states.

The Akhal-Teke and Karabakh breeds hold a special place in the hearts of Turkic communities, renowned for their endurance, beauty, and historical significance. Experts believe that collaboration between breeders from Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan could enhance preservation efforts, improve breeding practices, and promote the global recognition of these treasured horses.
