Almost 200 Uzbek Citizens Seek Asylum in Russia

In 2025, a total of 191 citizens of Uzbekistan applied for asylum in the Russian Federation.

Official statistics show that 8,820 foreign nationals sought asylum in Russia over the year, The Caspian Post reports via the Russian media.

The largest number of applications came from Ukrainian citizens (3,332 people), followed closely by Syrians (3,196). Applications were also filed by 313 citizens of Palestine, 281 citizens of Afghanistan, and 191 citizens of Uzbekistan.

The top ten countries whose nationals most frequently applied for asylum in Russia also included Germany, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Israel, and Armenia.

By comparison, in 2024, Russia received 6,879 asylum requests, with more than half coming from Ukrainian citizens (3,722). Syrians ranked second that year with 726 applications.

The official data does not specify the reasons behind the asylum requests or the outcomes of the applications, leaving the broader context of the migration trends unclear.
