Following the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting, a decision has been made to start negotiations on an agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), its member states, and Uzbekistan for the exchange of information on goods and international transport vehicles crossing customs borders.
The agreement aims to streamline customs procedures, enhance customs control efficiency, reduce discrepancies in foreign trade statistics, and strengthen trust among customs authorities of the participating countries, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
In 2026, the plan is to approve negotiation directives, form a negotiating delegation, and begin direct talks with Uzbekistan. The country has shown strong interest in joining key EAEU integration processes, with trade turnover with the Union’s members rising by over 70 per cent in the past four years.
Uzbekistan has held observer status in the EAEU since 2020 and has expanded cooperation in areas such as digitalization, agrotechnologies, and transit logistics.
The Eurasian Economic Union-comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia-offers a single economic space ensuring the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor among its member states, and Uzbekistan’s potential participation signals deeper regional integration.
