The European Union and Uzbekistan have signed an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA), strengthening bilateral ties across multiple sectors.
The signing coincided with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Brussels, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The agreement outlines expanded cooperation in cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, border management, and addressing hybrid threats. It also prioritizes digital and transport connectivity under the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and promotes sustainable supply chains, including critical materials, according to the joint statement issued after the talks.
Both parties expressed willingness to pursue negotiations on readmission agreements and simplified visa regimes under certain conditions.
The EU praised Uzbekistan’s progress in reforms, rule of law, human rights, and gender equality, highlighting its continued steps toward World Trade Organization (WTO) membership.
The partnership further extends to climate action, development of water and energy resources, and initiatives to restore the Aral Sea ecosystem, reinforcing regional sustainability efforts.
Officials described the agreement as a milestone in EU-Uzbekistan relations, signaling a new era of economic, digital, and environmental cooperation.
