The Uzbek Ministry of Emergency Situations has announced that a chemical leak involving hydrogen peroxide at an industrial warehouse in Tashkent’s Almazar district prompted a large-scale emergency response in the early hours of July 21.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. (GMT+5), when residents began reporting a strong chemical odor and experiencing respiratory discomfort, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Footage shared on social media showed dense white fog spreading through nearby streets, sparking concern among the local population.
Emergency responders quickly mobilized, dispatching firefighting units, ambulances, and specialized radiological, chemical, and biological protection teams to the scene. Just over two hours later, the ministry confirmed the leak and initiated efforts to contain and neutralize the chemical.
Authorities have stated that the situation is under control, and that all necessary agencies remain on-site to manage the aftermath and ensure public safety. No official reports of injuries or hospitalizations have been released at this time.
The ministry announced that a full investigation is underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the leak, with more detailed information to be shared in due course.
Hydrogen peroxide, particularly in high concentrations, is a hazardous chemical. Inhalation of its vapors can lead to eye and skin irritation, respiratory damage, and in severe cases, chemical burns or pulmonary complications.
