Propane Prices Surge on Uzbekistan Commodity Exchange

Propane prices on the Uzbek Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange (UzRTSB) continue rising.

Liquefied gas prices jumped 7.1 per cent, surpassing 9.27 million soums ($767) per ton. Since the start of 2026, propane has increased by 14.7 per cent, or nearly 1.2 million soums ($100) per ton, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

At the same time, supply volumes have sharply declined compared to the end of last year. Propane sales totaled 1,991 tons, 16.7 per cent lower than on December 30, 2025. Since December 11, prices have surged more than 28 per cent, raising the cost of a ton of liquefied gas by 2 million soums ($165) in less than a month.

Economist Otabek Bakirov noted that retail gas prices at filling stations rose from 6,100-6,200 soums to 6,800-7,000 soums per liter ($0.57-$0.58) in early January and suggested that an artificial propane shortage may be forming in the market.

According to the National Statistics Committee, propane rose 1.3 per cent in December, with a maximum price of 7,600 soums per liter ($0.63). For 2025 as a whole, liquefied gas prices fell by 10.5 per cent.

However, official statistics differ from UzRTSB data. Comparing prices on December 27, 2024, and December 30, 2025, propane costs rose 27.56 per cent, from 6.4 million to 8.08 million soums per ton ($532 → ~$670).
