Tajik Woman's Fake Jobs Led Uzbek Girls into Sexual Exploitation

Police officers in Uzbekistan have uncovered a human trafficking network that recruited citizens with false job promises and sent them to Malaysia, where victims were subjected to exploitation and forced labor.

According to Uzbekistan’s Interior Ministry, the criminal group operated in Kuala Lumpur and targeted job seekers in Uzbekistan through online messaging platforms, particularly Telegram, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Recruiters Used Fake Restaurant Job Offers

Investigators said the network was led by a woman originally from Tajikistan, who coordinated recruitment efforts through accomplices in Uzbekistan. The group advertised supposed restaurant jobs in Kuala Lumpur, promising salaries of up to $500 per month, free accommodation, and meals.

Recruiters in Tashkent met with applicants, convincing them to travel abroad with assurances of stable employment and legal work opportunities.

Victims Exploited After Arrival in Malaysia

Once in Malaysia, victims were subjected to exploitation instead of legitimate employment. Female victims were forced into sexual exploitation, while male victims were denied the promised wages and working conditions.

Authorities said the victims’ passports were confiscated, work visas were not arranged, and individuals were forced to work under coercive conditions without pay.

Criminal Case Launched as Investigation Continues

So far, investigators have identified eight victims linked to the trafficking operation. Uzbek law enforcement has opened a criminal case under Article 135 of the Criminal Code, which addresses human trafficking offenses.

Officials said operational measures successfully disrupted the network’s activities, and the investigation is ongoing to identify additional suspects and victims.
