A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Olimjon Abdullaev, has held high-level talks with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov in Russia’s Volga Federal District, focusing on enhancing conditions for Uzbek labor migrants working in the region.
The discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in economic, educational, and cultural sectors, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Minnikhanov underscored the vital role Uzbek workers play in the region’s economic growth and reaffirmed Tatarstan’s commitment to providing comprehensive legal and social protections for foreign employees.
The Uzbek delegation expressed appreciation for Tatarstan’s proactive migration policies and emphasized the importance of fostering safe, orderly, and legal labor migration pathways.
Both sides explored promising avenues of cooperation, including establishing migrant support centers, recognizing professional qualifications, expanding vocational training, enhancing economic and investment partnerships, and strengthening humanitarian ties through cultural events, academic exchanges, and youth initiatives.
Special attention was given to deepening direct interregional cooperation, promoting sister-region relationships, and developing joint business platforms between Uzbekistan and Tatarstan.
The meeting concluded with agreements to sustain regular dialogue and bolster strategic Uzbek-Russian cooperation. Key decisions included forming a working group to address illegal migration and increase organized recruitment of Uzbek labor migrants to Tatarstan, as well as drafting a comprehensive roadmap to implement these measures.
Additionally, Sariya Saburskaya, Tatarstan’s Human Rights Ombudsperson, agreed to have contact information published on the Uzbek General Consulate’s website to provide timely legal assistance to Uzbek citizens.
