Uzbek Child Receives Groundbreaking Heart Valve Replacement by Local Surgeon

Pediatric cardiac surgeon Bobur Turaev at the Children’s Multidisciplinary Clinic of Tashkent State Medical University has successfully performed Uzbekistan’s first tricuspid valve replacement using the patient’s own right atrial tissue.

The six-year-old patient’s damaged valve was removed and replaced in a procedure typically carried out only in leading medical centers abroad, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.

This year, the clinic has conducted around 500 cardiac surgeries under the leadership of Nodir Ibragimov, with Dr. Turaev contributing significantly. A graduate of University College London and former “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation scholar, Turaev has trained in clinics across ten countries and has completed over a thousand pediatric heart surgeries.
