Uzbek, Finnish Presidents Hold Talks on Expanding Cooperation

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held a phone talk with Finnish President Alexander Stubb to discuss prospects for strengthening multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

The talks focused on trade, economic, and humanitarian collaboration in the run-up to President Stubb’s planned visit to Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Both leaders welcomed the steady growth of constructive political dialogue and inter-parliamentary ties.

According to official data, bilateral trade increased by 24 per cent in 2024. Since 2022, the Finnish Nordic University has been successfully operating in Uzbekistan, supporting education reforms, while joint projects continue to modernize the school system.

During the conversation, special emphasis was placed on future cooperation in agriculture, chemistry, energy, mining, telecommunications, and the integration of innovative technologies, particularly in education.

To ensure concrete progress, the presidents agreed to convene a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and organize a business forum with the participation of leading companies from both countries.

The two leaders also exchanged views on pressing international issues, underlining the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and in accordance with international law.
