President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been nominated for the International Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize, according to a letter from Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Russian Peace Foundation.
Also nominated are President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.
In his message to the prize organizers, Slutsky highlighted a historic event from late March this year, when the three Central Asian leaders signed an agreement on the delimitation of their common borders in Khujand, Tajikistan. He praised the leaders for their significant role in enhancing regional cooperation and contributing to the development of a multipolar world.
The Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize, established last year, honors politicians and organizations for exceptional efforts in preventing wars and promoting peace. The African Union was the inaugural laureate. The award ceremony is traditionally held in Moscow on September 9, the birthday of the renowned Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.
