Uzbekistan and Germany Strengthen Cooperation in Humanitarian and Education Spheres

As previously reported, IICA hosted the Central Asia - Germany Online Think Tank Forum.

Abdurashid Bozorov, Head of the Sector of the Center for Economic Research and Reform, who took part in the event, noted the steady positive dynamics of relations between Uzbekistan and Germany, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.

There is an intensification of political dialogue, the expansion of trade and economic partnerships, and the strengthening of ties in the humanitarian and educational spheres.

“Germany is one of the main foreign economic partners of Uzbekistan today, ranking 7th in terms of trade turnover. In 2025, the volume of mutual trade reached $1.4 billion, which is 2.3 times more than in 2017”, A. Bozorov said. “Exports from Uzbekistan have increased almost 4.5 times. High-tech industrial products, equipment, chemical goods, and vehicles form the basis of imports”.

The consistent expansion of investment cooperation was also noted. As of January 2026, there are 225 enterprises with German capital operating in Uzbekistan. In 2024, the volume of investments and loans from Germany amounted to $1.37 billion. The main investments are directed to industry, energy, mining, and information and communication technologies. Special attention is paid to social projects, including healthcare financing.

According to the expert, the Joint Declaration for 2024-2030, adopted at the end of the Berlin Summit, constitutes a long-term institutional agenda. The document covers areas such as green energy, adaptation to climate change, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, and the expansion of humanitarian exchanges.

The following promising areas of cooperation are highlighted: the growth of exports of Uzbek goods to the German market, the modernization of the textile industry with the involvement of German technologies, the development of cooperation in the leather and shoe industry, the creation of medical clusters, and the localization of production in the Pharma Park.

Special attention is paid to the green economy projects. In particular, issues related to the development of hydrogen energy and the processing of strategically important raw materials were discussed. The possibilities of cooperation in the modernization of public transport in Tashkent, the introduction of engineering and digital solutions with the participation of German companies, have been identified.

In conclusion, the expert emphasized the solid foundation of the Uzbekistan - Germany partnership. Localization of production, development of value chains, and deepening cooperation through expanded investment and technological collaboration are identified as priorities for the next stage. This opens up new horizons for sustainable economic growth.
