The fifth meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic took place.
The current state and prospects for developing Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan relations were reviewed, particularly emphasizing strengthening interparliamentary cooperation as a key partnership area, The Caspian Post reports citing UzA.
Discussions also included mechanisms for effectively utilizing parliamentary diplomacy to expand trade and economic ties, attract investment, and enhance cultural and humanitarian exchange between the two countries.
Co-Chair of the Commission and First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sodiq Safoev, noted that in recent years, thanks to the efforts of the leaders of both states, a solid foundation of mutual political trust has been established. In this context, the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan play a vital role in strengthening interstate relations. They are expected to actively support the implementation of the strategic course of cooperation at all levels.
At the meeting, participants discussed experiences in legislative cooperation and the development of youth, social, and cultural programs. Particular attention was given to education issues, preserving shared historical and cultural heritage, and expanding partnerships in the humanitarian sphere.
The importance of parliamentary support in promoting the tourism potential of both countries was emphasized, including the development of cross-border routes, the simplification of procedures for tourists, and investment in tourism infrastructure.
Parliamentarians reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening multifaceted bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that interparliamentary dialogue will continue to focus on strengthening good-neighborly relations and safeguarding the interests of the peoples of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
