Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced that the country is set to establish two trade houses in the US, in St. Louis and New York, as part of a strategic push to expand exports of ready-made clothing to the American market.
The president made these remarks during a video conference on the textile industry’s export potential, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.
The US textile market is valued at nearly $100 billion annually, and officials say that with additional support measures, Uzbekistan’s exports could grow five- to six-fold.
To facilitate this expansion, the Agency for Technical Regulation has been tasked with increasing the number of Uzbek enterprises holding international certifications to 300.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will develop a “roadmap” for engaging with global brands with annual turnovers exceeding $1 billion and will invite them to a major exhibition in Tashkent scheduled for September.
