Uzbekistan Hits Historic High in Solar and Wind Power Generation

Uzbekistan reached a new milestone in its renewable energy transition as the country’s solar and wind power plants generated 1.246 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in July 2025, marking the highest monthly output in the nation’s history.

This figure represents 17 per cent of total electricity production for the month and significantly surpasses the previous record of 1.104 billion kWh set in May by 142 million kWh, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.

Uzbekistan currently operates 11 solar photovoltaic plants and 4 wind farms with a combined installed capacity of 4,119 megawatts. These facilities were responsible for the record-breaking output, with solar plants contributing 760.9 million kWh and wind farms producing 485.4 million kWh.

The ministry stated that the clean energy output in July helped save 377.5 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the release of 1.12 million tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The government highlighted the rapid growth in renewable energy generation in recent years:

In 2022, just two solar plants produced 434 million kWh.

In 2023, total generation rose to 576.9 million kWh.

By 2024, solar and wind power output reached 4.86 billion kWh.

When combined with hydropower, the total electricity generated by renewable sources in July 2025 reached 2.089 billion kWh, accounting for 27 per cent of national output. This helped save an estimated 633 million cubic meters of gas and cut emissions by 1.88 million tons.

The ministry noted that this level of generation equates to seven months of power consumption for 1.492 million households or the annual usage of 870,000 houses.

As of August 2, 2025, the total amount of electricity generated from solar and wind sources since the start of the year had exceeded 6 billion kWh, underscoring Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to scale up clean energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
