Uzbekistan, Indonesia Lift Airline Limits, Expand Travel Horizons

A new agreement has been signed between the civil aviation authorities of Uzbekistan and Indonesia to strengthen cooperation in civil aviation and pilgrimage tourism.

The agreement aligns with the 53rd goal of "Uzbekistan - 2030" Strategy, approved by presidential decree in September 2023, which aims to quadruple the country’s air transportation volume by 2030, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.

During a recent meeting in Jakarta, the Uzbek Ministry of Transport delegation presented Indonesia with detailed updates on the sweeping reforms underway in Uzbekistan’s pilgrimage tourism and civil aviation sectors. Discussions also covered the expansion prospects of the “Umrah Plus” program.

As a result of the negotiations, both sides agreed to lift restrictions on the number of airlines operating between the two countries, which were previously limited under the bilateral air services agreement.

The agreement opens new routes for Uzbek airlines to Indonesian cities including Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan, Yogyakarta, Majalengka, Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pandan, and Lombok, alongside the capital Jakarta.

Furthermore, flight frequencies will increase to 28 weekly flights per country, doubling the total number of flights to 56 per week in both directions. Indonesian airlines were also granted rights to fly to all international airports across Uzbekistan.
