Uzbekistan's Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov held talks with his Latvian counterpart, Atis Švinka.
The meeting was also attended by executives of Latvijas dzelzceļš (Latvian Railways) and representatives of the ports of Riga, Liepāja, and Ventspils, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
The two sides discussed prospects for cooperation in aviation, rail, and road transport. The Latvian delegation expressed interest in increasing the number of flights and cargo volumes, as well as in developing e-commerce.
For its part, the Uzbek side raised issues related to the transition to digital transport documentation. Proposals included increasing the number of road transport permits and introducing a permit-free system for transit shipments.
Mahkamov also outlined Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop international corridors in the East - West and South Asia directions. He called on the Latvian side to take steps to boost the potential of these new routes.
In early September, Uzbekistan reached an agreement with Moldova to introduce a permit-free system for bilateral and transit shipments starting in 2026. The initiative is expected to provide additional convenience for carriers operating on the European route.
