Uzbekistan and Russia are set to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors, with a strong focus on peaceful nuclear energy, as Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov meets his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow on April 13.
The talks will take place as part of the sixth session of the Joint Commission, where both sides will review progress and outline new initiatives across key areas, including trade, science and technology, and cultural cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
A major highlight of the agenda is collaboration in energy - particularly projects related to peaceful nuclear development - alongside industry, transport infrastructure, agriculture, and education.
The partnership between the two countries continues to expand rapidly. More than 3,000 enterprises with Russian participation are currently operating in Uzbekistan, while over 700 Uzbek-backed companies are active in Russia. Around 150 joint investment projects are being implemented, with a total value estimated at 4 trillion rubles.
One of the flagship initiatives is the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region with the involvement of Rosatom. In addition, joint technoparks are already functioning, with new industrial sites expected to launch soon.
Educational ties are also strengthening. Uzbekistan has the largest network of branches of Russian universities abroad - 15 in total, including Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and National Research Nuclear University. Plans are also in place to open branches of Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University in the near future.
Beyond bilateral ties, the two nations continue to coordinate within major regional platforms such as the Commonwealth of Independent States, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and BRICS. Uzbekistan also holds observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union and works closely with the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Eurasian Development Bank.
