Uzbekistan Secures Full Membership in UN Statistical Commission

In a historic first, Uzbekistan has been unanimously elected as a full member of the United Nations Statistical Commission for the 2026-2029 term.

The election took place in New York, marking a significant step forward in the country’s engagement with global data and statistical governance, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

Established in 1947 as a functional body of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Statistical Commission serves as the principal intergovernmental organization responsible for setting the strategic direction of international statistics. It coordinates the development and implementation of universal statistical standards and methodological principles. The Commission consists of 24 member states elected for four-year terms, with representation distributed geographically.

Uzbekistan’s election to this body stands as clear evidence of the international recognition of the profound reforms being carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the country’s growing role in global processes.

Full membership in the Statistical Commission provides Uzbekistan with broad opportunities to contribute to shaping global statistical policy, to showcase national experiences and reform achievements, to study advanced international practices, and to deepen international cooperation.
