Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are moving to strengthen cross-border connectivity after holding a meeting of the Joint Commission on the Development of International Road Transport in Samarkand.
The talks were led by Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Minister of Transport Mahkamjon Omarov and Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Transport Shoista Saidmurodzoda, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
During the discussions, the two sides reviewed key areas for deepening bilateral cooperation in road transport, focusing on improving efficiency and expanding capacity.
Particular attention was given to boosting throughput at the Jartepa-Sarazm border crossing, introducing an electronic system for exchanging permit forms for international road transport, and increasing permit quotas. Officials also discussed launching pilot shipments along the multimodal transport corridor linking China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Following the meeting, both sides agreed on priority tasks and practical steps aimed at further developing transport cooperation and enhancing the smooth flow of international road transport between the two neighboring countries.
