Uzbekistan is set to establish a Regional Nuclear Knowledge and Skills Center in Tashkent, aiming to strengthen nuclear education, workforce training, and safety standards across Central Asia.
The new center will operate as a dedicated division of the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute), The Caspian Post reports via Lex.uz.
The facility will use the existing infrastructure of the MEPhI branch while serving as a scientific and practical hub for nuclear specialists from across Central Asia.
Its key mission will be to develop internationally aligned training programs covering the design, construction, and safe operation of nuclear energy facilities. The center will also organize hands-on training courses for engineers, technicians, and government experts from across the region.
A major feature of the project will be advanced simulator-based training, allowing participants to practice operating nuclear power plant reactor and turbine systems in a realistic environment.
Beyond education, the center will provide expert advisory services to Central Asian countries developing their national nuclear programs. Its work will focus on building nuclear infrastructure and promoting a strong nuclear safety culture in line with recommendations from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Uzbek government plans to staff the center with qualified specialists within the next three months, marking another step in the country's expanding nuclear energy ambitions and regional cooperation efforts.
