Uzbekistan to Unveil Stunning 52-Meter Wall Celebrating Civilizations and Discoveries

Uzbekistan is set to unveil an impressive 52-meter-long Wall of Civilizations and Discoveries, a captivating tribute to the rich heritage and groundbreaking achievements of the Second Renaissance era.

A monumental new exhibit, the Wall of Civilizations and Discoveries, is nearing completion and will feature exquisite miniatures from the Second Renaissance period, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Stretching 52 meters long and 5 meters high, the wall will be adorned with over 10 carefully selected miniatures created by a team of 50 artists.

Dr. Behzod Khojimetov, a respected art scholar and artist involved in the project, explained that the collection highlights works from the Herat, Bukhara, Samarkand, and Indian schools of miniature art. The curators chose pieces focusing on influential thinkers and significant historical moments, deliberately excluding hunting and battle scenes to emphasize the themes of civilization, culture, and discovery.

Currently, about 80 per cent of the project is complete. Positioned at a height of 3 meters within an 8-meter tall museum wall, the miniatures are being created on premium fabrics using professional dyes and imported Italian liquid gold leaf. Each piece will be carefully mounted with specialized adhesives. The selection process also ensured that the artworks are unique and not duplicates of existing museum holdings.

Restorations were undertaken for some pieces to maintain their original artistic integrity according to their respective miniature art traditions. Decorative frames inspired by the Bukhara and Herat schools, chosen by a scientific council, will separate the miniatures.

The exhibition pays special tribute to Amir Temur with miniatures from Sharafiddin Ali Yazdi’s Zafarnoma, including the central “Balkh Qurultoyi” scene depicting his coronation and emphasizing his role as an educator. Additional highlights include a miniature of the construction of the Bibi Khanum Mosque and two authentic miniatures representing the scientific achievements of Mirzo Ulugbek.

The rich cultural heritage of the Timurid era is further brought to life through miniatures depicting luminaries such as Hussein Baykara, Alisher Navoi, and others from Herat’s golden age. The project also honors the legacy of Babur and the Baburids with manuscripts featuring Babur and his descendants, alongside representations of the subsequent Sheybanid and Ashtarkhanid dynasties’ contributions to Central Asian science and culture.

The Wall of Civilizations and Discoveries promises to offer visitors an immersive journey into the vibrant intellectual and artistic spirit of the Second Renaissance, celebrating a pivotal era of cultural brilliance.
