Uzbekistan, UNESCO Explore New Horizons for Cooperation in Education, Science, and Culture

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, to discuss further strengthening the dynamic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Azoulay congratulated President Mirziyoyev on hosting the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, being held outside the organization’s Paris headquarters for the first time in four decades, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

She commended Uzbekistan’s extensive preparations and diverse program, which includes the launch of the UNESCO Regional Center for Early Childhood Education, the Beruni Prize ceremony, celebrations of Samarkand’s 3,000th anniversary, and international forums on museums, artificial intelligence, and gender equality.

Both sides emphasized that Uzbekistan-UNESCO cooperation has reached a record high in recent years. Notable achievements include the World Conference on Early Childhood Education, the Paris celebration of the 1050th anniversary of the great scholar Beruni, and the establishment of an international prize in his name. At Uzbekistan’s initiative, three key UNESCO resolutions have been adopted, and several of the country’s cultural sites and elements of intangible heritage have been added to UNESCO’s lists.

The discussions reaffirmed a mutual commitment to expanding collaboration and launching new joint projects in priority areas such as education, science, and culture.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev awarded Azoulay the Order of Dostlik (Friendship) for her significant contributions to fostering cooperation in science, education, and culture, and for her role in promoting Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage on the global stage.
