The European Union has delivered a next-generation remote-controlled demining vehicle to Armenia, where it will be used for humanitarian mine clearance operations and to support the ongoing border demarcation process.
Speaking at a briefing in Yerevan, Peter Wagner, head of the European Commission's Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), said the 20-ton vehicle is part of the EU's broader support for Armenia's peace efforts, The Caspian Post reports via Armenpress.
Wagner said that the demining machine is included in a €5.5 million EU assistance package that also covers specialist training, safety equipment, first-aid supplies, and spare parts needed for operations in remote and mountainous areas.
He stressed that demining plays a vital role in building lasting peace by making border communities safer and allowing residents to experience tangible improvements in security.
The advanced vehicle will help clear mines from hazardous areas across Armenia and will also be deployed during the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border demarcation process, supporting efforts to improve safety and facilitate technical work along the frontier.
