Georgian Parliament Speaker Meets with Armenian FM to Discuss Strategic Ties, Regional Development

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has met with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during the latter’s official visit to Tbilisi.

Both sides reaffirmed the strong ties between the governments and peoples of Georgia and Armenia, which were elevated to a strategic partnership last year, The Caspian Post informs via Georgian media.

Papuashvili highlighted the positive momentum generated by recent high-level exchanges, noting that these visits reflect the close and active cooperation between the neighboring states.

The discussion focused on parliamentary cooperation, including collaboration between committee chairs, parliamentary friendship groups, and institutional delegations.

Regional developments were also a key topic. Mirzoyan briefed Georgian lawmakers on the peace agreement initiated in Washington between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that the talks have already produced tangible results, with negotiations ongoing toward finalizing and signing the accord. He also mentioned progress in Armenia-Türkiye relations.

Both sides agreed that the recent period of tension in the South Caucasus has given way to new opportunities, and that enhanced stability could bring significant benefits to the region.

The meeting was attended by First Deputy Speaker Giorgi Volski, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Armenia, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze, and members of the Armenian Friendship Group, Samvel Manukyan and Sumbat Kyureghyan.
