Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has held high-level talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Yerevan, with discussions focused on economic diversification, trade, and expanding cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.
Speaking after the meeting, Pashinyan said the two sides discussed Armenia's efforts to diversify its economy and the European Union's role in supporting those reforms through a range of financial and trade mechanisms, The Caspian Post reports via Armenpress.
The Armenian prime minister thanked the EU for providing €52 million in budget support, expressing hope that European assistance for trade diversification and export promotion would continue over the long term.
Pashinyan also welcomed the European Commission's proposal to EU member states to introduce autonomous trade measures for Armenian goods. If approved, Armenia would become the first country in recent years that is neither an EU candidate state nor has a free trade agreement with the bloc to benefit from the mechanism.
He said the Armenian government hopes to work closely with EU institutions and member states to secure swift approval of the proposal, emphasizing the importance of adopting the measures as quickly as possible as Armenia's harvest season is already underway.
