Today Commemorates The 34th Anniversary Of The Dashalti Operation Conducted By The Azerbaijani Army.
The operation, aimed at liberating the village of Dashalti, began on January 25, 1992, and ended unsuccessfully on the evening of January 26, The Caspian Post reports.
A total of 200 soldiers from the Shikhov Battalion were involved in the operation. It was led by former Minister of Defense Tajaddin Mekhdiyev.
According to the initial plan, one platoon was to pass through the village of Nabilar, ascend the Gizilgaya height, and from there block the road leading from Dashalti to the village of Signakh. The second plan envisaged blocking the road leading from Dashalty to Shushakand.
Unfavorable weather conditions, poor organization of communication between units, leakage of classified information about the course of the operation, as well as the betrayal of guides led to the failure of the operation.
The platoon that entered Dashalti fell into an ambush. The remaining platoons also suffered losses and were forced to retreat.
As a result of the failed operation, the Azerbaijani army lost more than 90 personnel. Armenian forces also sustained losses; 80 Armenian soldiers were killed during the fighting.
Note, as a result of successful counteroffensive operations carried out by the Azerbaijani army starting on September 27, 2020, territories that had long been under Armenian occupation were liberated, including the village of Dashalti.
On November 9, 2020, the Azerbaijani army liberated the village of Dashalti, which had been under the control of Armenian armed formations since 1991. Thus, retribution for the Dashalti operation came 28 years later.
After the liberation, mass graves were discovered in the formerly occupied Azerbaijani territories. One of these burial sites was found on February 17, 2021, in the territory of the village of Dashalti, from which the remains of seven people were recovered.
