Azerbaijan Emerges as Key Railway Cargo Partner for Georgia

In the third quarter of 2025, Azerbaijan supplied 32 per cent of all railway cargo entering Georgia, totaling 282,912 tons.

Russia accounted for 29.1 per cent of incoming rail cargo, while shipments from other countries made up 38.9 per cent, The Caspian Post informs via local media.

During the same period, 3.5 million tons of cargo were transported via Georgian railways, reflecting a 1.4 per cent decrease compared to the third quarter of 2024. Of the total volume, 9.5 per cent was domestic, 32.4 per cent international, and 58.1 per cent transit shipments.

In terms of cargo composition, 37.7 per cent consisted of coke and refined petroleum products, 20.6 per cent included chemical products, synthetic fibers, and related goods, rubber and plastic products were also significant, and 12.6 per cent comprised metallic ores as well as mining and quarry products.
