Azerbaijan Introduces Visa-Free Travel for Japanese and South Korean Tourists

Azerbaijan has waived visa requirements for citizens of Japan and South Korea, making it easier for travelers from both countries to visit as the nation seeks to boost tourism and strengthen international ties.

Under the new rules, from July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2027, holders of ordinary passports from Japan and South Korea can enter Azerbaijan without a visa for tourism purposes, The Caspian Post reports via the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan.

The measure is designed to deepen cooperation with both countries while encouraging greater tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

During the one-year period, eligible travelers from Japan and South Korea will be allowed to enter Azerbaijan visa-free up to three times, with each stay lasting up to 30 days.

The visa exemption applies exclusively to tourist visits. Travelers planning to visit Azerbaijan for work, study, business, or other non-tourism purposes-or those intending to stay longer than the permitted period-must obtain the appropriate visa in accordance with Azerbaijani law.
